Out of Hours Clubs 2010-2011

Page reviewed 08/08/10

Out-of-School-Hours Learning has a clear and important contribution to make to the development of all four of the capacities noted in Curriculum for Excellence. These are that pupils should become:

  • Successful learners, with enthusiasm and motivation for learning, and able to link and apply different kinds of learning in new situations;
  • Confident individuals, with a sense of physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, and able to achieve success in different areas of activity;
  • Responsible citizens, with commitment to participate responsibly in political, economic, social and cultural life, and
  • Effective contributors, with resilience and self-reliance, and able to work in partnership and teams.

Out-of-School-Hours Learning has a clear and important contribution to make to the development of all four of these capacities.

An 'excellent school' is a school which has young people's learning at the heart of its work and focuses on enabling them to achieve success through the outcomes of A Curriculum for Excellence. An excellent school also also works effectively with all the members of the school and it's community, listens to what they say and involves them in making important decisions.

Throughout 2010-2011 we plan to offer numerous after school activities, subject to the availability of teachers/coaches. These will be listed below. The assistance of parents in pursuit of extra-curricular activities is always welcome and any parent who is able to use his or her talents or interests in this way will receive the full support of the school.

However, we ask you to note the following:

  • Where a club is oversubscribed, priority will be given to the most senior classes involved in the club.
  • Where a child wishes to attend two clubs, but both are on the same evening, then a decision will require to be made as to which club to opt for.
  • Children should be certain of their commitment to a club before selecting this. It is most unfair when a child may have taken a place away from someone else and then has a poor attendance at a club and/or withdraws.
  • Parents are fully responsible for making arrangements for their children to get home at the end of a club. There will be no school crossing patrols on duty at club finishing times.
  • Sometimes, due to unforeseen circumstances, a club may have to be cancelled at very short notice i.e. on the day of the club. It is not always possible to alert parents about this. Parents should ensure that their child knows what to do if this should happen and their child is dismissed at 3.00pm rather than stay to attend the club.
